In A Thousand Blows, the gritty world of 1880s East London is brought to life through meticulous visual effects that seamlessly blend with practical sets. BlueBolt, the primary VFX studio for the series, delivered 200+ shots for both seasons, effectively portraying the era's city environment.

Using a combination of practical effects and digital, BlueBolt's transformation of Mortlake's backlot into the bustling Wapping Docks in East London involved extensive digital set extensions and full CG environments. BlueBolt's work extended existing warehouse buildings along the Thames riverside, creating a dynamic backdrop that captures the essence of Victorian London's East End.

Beyond environmental enhancements and digital set extensions, the VFX team also amplified the intensity of bare-knuckle boxing matches, ensuring each fight scene conveyed the raw energy and brutality of the sport. The integration of these visual effects elements not only supports the narrative but also creates a uniquely accurate historical setting, making A Thousand Blows a standout example of period drama enhanced by digital artistry.
