Most media teams exploring file streaming already have data in object storage, where petabytes files have built up across years of projects. The media is already in the cloud. The problem that's plagued the media industry is that nobody can work on it directly.
The crux has always been:
Once files live in object storage, how do you make that data usable by local and remote users, tools, and workflow tools—without copying it, syncing it, or moving it around?

Performant file streaming has historically required this proprietary format. Files get broken into chunks, encrypted, distributed across the object store, and reassembled on the client. That's how a 200GB ProRes file opens in seconds over a network instead of downloading for an hour. Suite worked this way for years. So has everyone else.
The trade-off, until now, is that the storage platform becomes the system of record. Your bucket holds the bytes, but only Suite or a different platform's client is the only thing that can make sense of them. Any tool that speaks plain S3 looks into the bucket and sees blocks, not standard objects. The client, historically, was the puzzle master that pieced it all together.
There's one other file streaming tool on the market—we won't name names—that allows teams to connect their existing object storage bucket to the client and present standard objects to a viewer within a local file system. But the catch is that the tool can't write files. This enables read-only access, but not true, working access to data stored in object storage.

Can Suite write files back to my own S3 bucket?
Yes. Suite reads and writes standard objects directly to your bucket. Renders, exports, new versions, and folder changes are written back to the same location the source media came from, in native format, with no intermediate copy.
Do I have to migrate my data to use Suite?
No. Suite operates on S3-compatible object storage that already exists. There's no ingest phase and no conversion, so there's no migration window to schedule and no downtime to plan around.
Will my other S3 tools still work?
Yes. Because files are stored as native objects rather than in a proprietary format, any S3-compatible tool—MAM systems, transcode farms, backup, lifecycle policies, custom scripts—can read and write the same bucket alongside Suite. Everything works as it does already.
What's the difference between S3 Native File Streaming and a read-only connector?
A read-only connector lets you view and stream objects that already exist in your bucket, but writes have to happen in a separate place.
