In Senna, PICMA delivers a tightly controlled mix of visual effects that brings historic F1 racing to life with detail, energy, and period accuracy. The VFX work is both a practical solution and a creative engine—allowing the film to go “back in time” and reconstruct legendary race moments using a combination of live-action and full digital enhancements.
Much of the racing action was created by blending real footage with extensive animated driving sequences. Tracks were digitally extended and refined in post, with dynamic crowd simulations, fog layers, and advertising banners added to match the atmosphere of each race. Whether it’s transforming an overcast circuit or populating empty seats with thousands of fans, the effects work goes well beyond clean-up—it builds the scene from the ground up.
Driving scenes relied heavily on VFX to simulate real car movement while keeping the action grounded. PICMA replaced or enhanced vehicles using CG to match the correct era, completing shots with subtle details like tire smoke, reflections, and period-accurate branding.
The production also benefited from building full-scale environments out of limited practical sets. This “do more with less” approach highlights how much of the final image was shaped in post. Color grading and compositing were critical in unifying layers, restoring vintage tones, and reinforcing the film’s timeline.
Senna uses VFX to dazzle—placing viewers trackside at some of motorsport’s most iconic moments, all without breaking the authenticity of the world being depicted.
