Wicked dazzled audiences not just with its music and performances, but with the sheer scale of its world-building. With more than 2,500 VFX shots and a crew of over 1,000 artists and builders, the film's visual design is as ambitious as its Broadway origins. Every detail—enchanted skies, sprawling cities, floating bubbles—was crafted to heighten the theatricality without losing the emotional intimacy of the story.

While the production built practical sets up to 25 feet for interiors and 50 feet for exteriors, nearly everything beyond that was constructed digitally. Entire landscapes were extended in post, with seamless transitions between real and imagined space. From magical spells to sweeping camera moves through Oz, the VFX teams created a visual grammar that matched the scale and tone of the narrative.

The behind-the-scenes videos below dive into the scope of this undertaking—from set extensions and CG environments to animated effects and color work. Each one offers a different look at how the world of Wicked was built, one frame at a time.
